BlueChip Athletic Solutions had a crew of four people at Old Dominion’s campus this week shooting video of the Monarch football program.

BlueChip was hired last year by ODU to do a series of videos that are available to fans, but are largely intended for prospective recruits.

Videos shot last year showed coach Bobby Wilder in a simulated pre-game pep talk, highlights of games and highlights of Hampton Roads most scenic places.

Camera crews interviewed most of ODU’s coaches and some players this week. They took videos inside the L.R. Hill Sports Complex and drove around Hampton Roads making videos of scenic places.

On Thursday, a camera crew even followed Wilder as he went to Dunkin’ Donuts for coffee.

But the coolest thing I’ve seen at an ODU practice occurred on Tuesday, when Blue Chip officials cranked up a small drone that took off in one end zone and hovered several hundred feet about the Monarchs as they worked out.

“This takes some unbelievable video,” said Marty Dashiell of BlueChip.

The photo above shows Dashiell ready to fire up the drone, which looks like a small helicopter.

Neal Girandola, who heads the Atlanta-based crew, said they were at Mississippi State before coming to ODU.

They will return to ODU on Friday, Sept. 26, to shoot more video when the Monarchs host Middle Tennessee State. It will be the first Friday night game at ODU and will be televised nationally on Fox Sports.
